Alide Roerink (1958)
is co-chair of the international Earth Charter initiative. She studied anthropology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, and studied Women and Development at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. She has been working at several organizations and networks in the field of international cooperation and cosmopolitanism. She coordinated the expert network Vrouwenberaad Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (Women Council Development Cooperation) and, until recently, she was associated with NCDO. Together with Ruud Lubbers, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, she founded the think tank Worldconnectors. Alide Roerink has facilitated various social platforms to prepare the summits of the United Nations (Poverty Summit, Millennium Summit, Sustainability summits). She organized various iconic international events, in which the Earth Charter was the central theme. Recently, she cooperated with Brigitte van Baren in the organization of Wings for Earth Charter.
